August 2024 In the best interest of the Maple Springs community, a list of organizations that state that their mission includes supporting a healthy Chautauqua Lake has been compiled. We have listed their name, website (or contact info if no website available), and their mission/purpose statement which was copied directly from their website. You can find out more regarding their approach to lake management by visiting their website or contacting them directly. The NYS DEC website is also listed below as well as a direct link to the NYS proposed Wetland Regulations. The organizations are in alphabetical order. MSCA and MSIC boards do not endorse any particular opinion expressed on the webpages or the information listed here.
Chautauqua-Conewango Consortium CCC Mission Statement: “The mission of the Chautauqua-Conewango Consortium is to serve as the voice of protection for the Conewango watershed and all of the life that depends on our regional water.”
Chautauqua Institution Chautauqua Lake Conservation Mission: “Chautauqua Lake is critical to a strong sense of place and community for those at Chautauqua Institution and throughout Chautauqua County, but human impact is taking its toll. Chautauqua Institution is committed to alleviating the stressors that are impacting Chautauqua Lake. With careful planning and dedication we are striving to minimize our impact on this beloved and important resource. Ours is a long-term commitment to improving the water quality of the lake and the natural environment in which we live.”
Chautauqua Lake Association https://chautauqualakeassociation.org/ CLA “About” Statement: “Addressing lake management needs since our incorporation in 1953, we are mainly known for our in-lake program of seasonal near shore harvesting of nuisance aquatic vegetation. We have also maintained safe waterways for lake users by removing debris and clearing clogged navigational lanes when such conditions have occasionally developed. In addition, we currently offer a unique shoreline service that assists lakefront owners with the burden of cleaning their shorelines. Additionally, we offer weed disposal services to businesses and homeowners as they clear their lakefront. We have recently performed successful dredging projects on lake tributaries and are investigating other needed dredging work.”

Chautauqua Lake Partnership CLP Mission Statement “The CLP is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that simply wants Chautauqua Lake to be a healthy lake that can be enjoyed by all for fishing, swimming, and boating We strive to improve the quality of our lake by keeping nuisance levels of invasive weeds in check · Strategic planning of treatment areas based on comprehensive aquatic plant surveys, current scientific knowledge and lake management best practices · Facilitation of herbicide permits on behalf of participating townships and villages · Full compliance with all New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) requirements”

NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) NYS DEC Division of Water Mission: “The mission of the Division of Water is to protect and conserve the water resources of New York State. This mission is accomplished through a wide range of programs and activities. Some of these are statewide in their scope and apply to all parts of the state.
